Taunton

The County Town of Taunton dates back to Saxon times and was given it’s name due to it’s position on the River Tone, “Tone town” and was an important Saxon settlement.

The Town Centre offers a superb variety of historic buildings of considerable architectural importance dating back through Tudor times to the medieval period and the crowning glory surely is the 13th Century Castle that stands in the centre, which is now run as the internationally acclaimed Castle Hotel.

Taunton has become a very popular area of the country to live in recent years because of it’s fantastic location within Somerset. Many refer to it as the gateway to the south west offering superb road and motorway links to Devon and Cornwall, whilst also being ideally located for Bristol, the A303 to London and the north and south coasts which are a little over half an hours drive.

Taunton is the County Town of Somerset and offers a fabulous shopping centre with many well known high street retailers and a superb selection of bars and restaurants. It has a mainline railway station making intercity links (London Paddington in under two hours), highly respected primary and secondary schooling, a well stocked library, ‘out of town’ multiplex cinema and ten pin bowling, highly regarded golf courses and tranquil walks can be enjoyed on the Quantock and Blackdown Hills, designated as areas of outstanding natural beauty.
